Removing/installing expansion reservoir - AR46.25-P-1000VA

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing hydraulic fluid. Depressurize the hydraulic system completely before starting any work on the system. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. -
NOTES The area around the separation point should be cleaned thoroughly before opening the hydraulic circuit of the power steering. Even minute particles of dirt, introduced into the hydraulic components, can result in malfunctions or damage to the power steering.    
1 Open engine hood and raise to vertical position   AR88.40-P-1000V
2 Remove the left engine intake air duct    
3.1 Remove front engine cover Model 171.473

    Remove air filter housing. -
4 Remove cap (1) on power steering expansion reservoir (2) IMPORTANT Press the cap (1) downwards and turn counterclockwise through 90°.  
5 Suction off MB steering gear oil from expansion reservoir (2) FLUID SPECIFICATION MB steering gear oil *BF46.20-P-1001-01A

6 Detach return hose (3) from expansion reservoir (2) IMPORTANT Collect MB steering gear oil with rags and seal connections immediately using stop plugs. SPECIAL TOOL

    COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS 7 mm socket hexagon *WH58.30-Z-1002-06A 
7 Use SPECIAL TOOL pulling hook (01) to pull out clamp (2a) to the side SPECIAL TOOL Pulling hook Fig 4
8 Unscrew bolts (2b). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, expansion reservoir to front cover *BA46.25-P-1001-01D 
9 Remove expansion reservoir (2) from the connection fitting of the power steering pump (4) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace sealing ring (2c).  
10 Install in the reverse order    
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near engine Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

11 Fill power steering pump and bleed   AR46.30-P-0010V 
12 Check oil level in expansion reservoir (2) and correct if necessary    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Power steering - checking and correcting oil level   AP46.00-P-4611V
