Expand fiber optical cable ring for component to be retrofitted - AN82.64-P-0001-05VB

NOTESRisk of breakage!  Do not kink optical waveguide, route over sharp edges or bend in radii smaller than 25 mm. Tensile forces on inserts must not exceed 65 N. Do not squeeze fiber optic cable and do not compress with clamps or cable ties.

  1. Remove the MOST connectors (11) of both MOST wiring harnesses ordered.
  2. Remove blue retaining clip (15) from the two MOST carrier elements (13) and (14).
  3. Install exposed insert of fiber optical cable module (9) of the first MOST wiring harness into chamber 2, output (see arrow) of MOST carrier element (14) of the second MOST wiring harness.

    IMPORTANT Fiber optical cable module (9) must latch audibly.

  4. Install blue locking clip (15) into the MOST carrier element (14)
  5. Clip MOST carrier element (14) into MOST connector (11).

    IMPORTANT The MOST connector (11) will later be connected to the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6).

  6. Unlock catch lug on MOST carrier element (13) and remove fiber optic cable module (9) from the MOST carrier element (13).

    IMPORTANT The MOST carrier element (13) and second MOST connector (11) are no longer required.

  7. Unclip cover (12) from adapter connector (10) ordered in direction of arrows.
  8. Install fiber optical cable module (8) in adapter connector (10).

    IMPORTANT Fiber optical cable module (8) must latch audibly. The other end of the fiber optic cable module (8) must be engaged in the input of the MOST carrier element (14) in the MOST-connector (11).

    Only with MB Audio 20 radio 

  1. 9.1 Remove MOST carrier element (18) from the black, 44-pin connector (2a) of the radio (A2).

    Only with MB Audio 50 APS radio and with COMAND APS 

  2. 9.2 Remove MOST carrier element (18) from black, 6-pin connector (3a).

    NOTES Do not damage electrical line and MOST fiber optic cable.

  3. 10 Unclip blue locking clip (17) from the MOST carrier element (18).
  4. 11 Unlatch locking tab, remove fiber optical cable module (7) from chamber 1 (input) of the MOST carrier element (18) and install in adapter connector (10) of prepared fiber optical cable wiring harness.

    IMPORTANT Fiber optical cable module (7) must latch audibly.

  5. 12 Clip cover (12) on adapter connector (10) and wind felt tape around.

  6. 13 Install fiber optical cable module (9) of prepared fiber optical cable wiring harness into chamber 1 (input) of MOST carrier element (18).

    IMPORTANT Fiber optical cable module (9) must latch audibly.

  7. 14 Install blue locking clip (17) in the MOST carrier element (18).

    Only with MB Audio 20 radio 

  8. 15.1 Clip MOST carrier element (18) into the black, 44-pin connector (2a) of the radio (A2).

    NOTES Do not damage electrical line and MOST fiber optic cable.

    Only with MB Audio 50 APS radio and with COMAND APS 

  9. 15.2 Clip MOST carrier element (18) into black, 6-pin connector (3a).

    NOTES Do not damage electrical line and MOST fiber optic cable.

    IMPORTANT Shown on vehicle with MB Audio 20 radio

  10. 16 Attach fiber optical cables with each other as shown in picture above (arrow).
  11. 17 Create a loop with the excess length of the fiber optical cable module (8).
  12. 18 Attach loop with felt tape as shown in picture above.

    NOTES

    Do not damage electrical line and MOST fiber optic cable.

    Only with MB Audio 20 radio 

  13. 19.1 Guide the black, 44-pin connector (2a) together with the antenna plug (2b) from the footwell to the radio (A2).
  14. 20.1 Connect the black, 44-pin connector (2a) to the radio (A2) and lock.
  15. 21.1 Insert antenna plug (2b) in the radio (A2).
  16. 22.1 Once again check the black, 44-pin connector (2a) and the antenna plug (2b) for correct seating on the radio (A2).

    Only with MB Audio 50 APS radio (shown in the picture) 

  17. 23.1 Guide the black, 6-pin connector (3a) together with the GPS antenna plug (3b) from the front passenger footwell to the radio and navigation unit (A2/56).
  18. 24.1 Insert the black, 6-pin connector (3a) and GPS antenna plug (3b) in the radio and navigation unit (A2/56).
  19. 25.1 Double-check that connectors are properly seated.

    NOTES Do not damage electrical line and MOST fiber optic cable.

    Only with COMAND APS 

  20. 26.1 Guide the black, 6-pin connector (3a) from front passenger footwell to COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and insert.
  21. 27.1 Double-check that connector is properly seated.
  22. 28 Wind felt tape around fiber optical cable modules (8) and (9), as shown in picture.

    NOTES Do not damage MOST fiber optical cable.

  23. 29 Remove the covering (30) for glove compartment illumination, separate plug (31) and strap down plug (31) with wiring harness (32) in the area of the A-pillar on vehicle's own wiring harnesses.

    IMPORTANT On vehicles with  AUX-jack the AUX-jack must be removed from the covering (30) for glove compartment illumination and installed in the opening in the glove compartment. On vehicles without  AUX-jack the opening in the glove compartment is sealed with the blind plug (33). The covering (30) for the glove compartment illumination and plug (31) are no longer required.

  24. 30 Route MOST connector (11) from front passenger footwell through cutout in glove compartment.

    NOTES Do not damage MOST fiber optical cable.

    IMPORTANT The MOST connector (11) will later be connected to the CD player with changer (in glove compartment).

  25. 31 Attach fiber optical cable modules (8) and (9), which are wrapped with felt tape, under the instrument panel using felt tape (arrow) at glove compartment as per the picture.

    NOTES Do not damage MOST fiber optical cable. Ensure that it cannot chafe.
