With the authorization the service provider (Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center (CAC)) authorizes the triggering of a telediagnosis call (roadside assistance call). The authorization is vehicle and not person-related.

Authorization is required in the following cases:

When the system is initially started up.
With a new SIM card (subscriber identification module) for TELE AID
When the vehicle owner changes

During authorization a check is accomplished via mobile telephone:

The validity of the SIM card (for TELE AID) installed in the telephone transmitter/receiver and TELE AID, D2B (A35/17).
The vehicle identification number (VIN)

When the system is not authorized TELE AID telediagnosis is not possible. If no authorization has been obtained, the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) indicator lamp comes on and an error message appears in the instrument cluster (A1) or COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/2) (see illustration above).

Authorization is not required for an info call.

Before authorization there should be no SIM card in the telephone handset (A34).

Authorization sequence

The Mercedes-Benz service station informs the service provider (Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center (CAC)) about the deadline for the startup. There the transmission for the authorization message for the corresponding vehicle is prepared.

Circuit 15R (ignition ON) and the telephone interface (A34/4) must be switched on for authorization to take place. The actual authorization is accomplished automatically and has a duration of approx. 15 minutes.

To ensure trouble-free operation the following should be avoided during authorization:

Actuating telediagnosis or
switching off the ignition or
switching off the telephone interface (A34/4) or
Setting TELE AID to diagnosis mode (via STAR diagnosis).

Deauthorization

When the vehicle owner changes the TELE AID system must be deauthorized before handing over the vehicle to avoid misuse. Inform service provider for deauthorization.

For authorization or deauthorization malfunction-free telephone reception is required (observe display of telephone handset (A34), if necessary park vehicle outdoors).
