Removing and installing front brake control cable - AR42.20-P-0520R: Notes

MODIFICATION NOTES

12.12.02 Check version of pedal assembly, added Step 21 BT42.20-P-0510-01A
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
1 Raise vehicle with lifting platform IMPORTANT Position lifting platform support arm so that the bolt (5/1) of the rear diagonal strut (5) is accessible.  
2 Remove rear section of lower engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105R
3 Remove exhaust system Model 230.456/467/471/475 AR49.10-P-7000R
    Model 230.472/474 AR49.10-P-7000RA
    Model 230.476/477/479 AR49.10-P-7000RB
4 Remove heat shield under propeller shaft    
5 Release cable slack adjuster (91) IMPORTANT Unscrew bolt (91a) several turns.  
6 Detach retracting spring (94)    
7 Detach brake control cable (85) from cable slack adjuster (91)    
8 Use SPECIAL TOOL unclipping device (043) to disconnect brake cable (85) from frame floor assembly SPECIAL TOOL Figure
9 Unclip brake cable (85) from retaining clips (85a) on outside of cardan tunnel IMPORTANT Position brake cable (85) so that it can be pushed out from the passenger compartment without getting caught
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace retaining clips (85a).
 
10 Remove left cover below instrument panel   AR68.10-P-1500R
11 Remove door sill molding (1) upwards    
12 Remove trim (2) from A-pillar    
13 Remove cover (3).    
14 Remove accelerator pedal   AR30.12-P-1321I
15 Remove brake pedal   AR29.10-P-4597R
16 Lift floor coverings in driver footwell    
17 Remove footrest (4)    
18 Disconnect brake cable (85) from parking brake pedal (75) and remove using SPECIAL TOOL unclipping device (043) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that the rubber ring (85c) is correctly seated on the nipple.  
19 Unclip brake cable (85) from retaining clips (85a) in driver footwell and push out with rubber grommet (85b) on transmission tunnel IMPORTANTInstallation:  Working from within the passenger compartment, push the brake cable (85) to the outside.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace retaining clips (85a).
 
20 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Checking

Check version of pedal assembly (71) Parking brake pedal assembly modified   BT42.20-P-0510-01A
22 Operate parking brake pedal (75) and check pedal travel of parking brake pedal (75) IMPORTANT If the pedal travel is not within the tolerance range: ↓  
    Adjusting parking brake. AR42.20-P-0540R 
    Actuating force on parking brake pedal *BE42.20-P-1001-01C 
    Notches through which the parking brake pedal must be depressed *BE42.20-P-1002-01C
