Removing and installing brake shoes of parking brake - AR42.20-P-0530I

2.12.02 Check version of pedal assembly, added Work step 15 BT42.20-P-0510-01A
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by body parts being jammed or crushed. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by brake fluid spraying out at high pressure when working on the SBC brake system Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS. AS42.46-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
1.1 Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS. Model 230
IMPORTANT The following steps should be run through in STAR DIAGNOSIS:
Select menu item "SBC-Sensotronic Brake Control"/"Deactivate 'SBC' system".
Then process all the individual steps from top to bottom.

    STAR DIAGNOSIS diagnostic system *WH58.30-Z-1048-13A 
2 Remove rear wheels.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary   AP40.10-P-4050Z
3 Remove brake disks on rear axle Model 215, 220 AR42.10-P-0220I
    Model 230 AR42.10-P-0220R 
4.1 Preloading automatic cable slack adjuster Model 215, 220 AR42.20-P-0520-01A
4.2 Release cable slack adjuster Model 230  
5 Detach lower retracting spring (111) using removal and installation tool (040). IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that the lower retracting spring (111) is seated correctly!

6 Remove retaining springs (107) with installation tool (041) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Pay attention to correct seat of retaining springs (107).

7 Remove brake shoes (103) over rear axle shaft flange (68) IMPORTANT If brakes shoes (103) are burnt or brake disk surfaces are damaged, replace brake shoes (103), lower and upper retracting springs (111, 112), retaining springs (107) and brake disks.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Turn back adjusting mechanism (105) and insert into both brake shoes (103) with the adjusting wheel (c) pointing toward front of vehicle.
 
8 Detach upper retracting spring (112). IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that the upper retracting spring (112) is seated correctly! Lightly grease thread of thrust piece (104) and cylindrical part of adjustment wheel (c) with MB long-life grease.  
    Long-life grease *BR00.45-Z-1005-06A 
9 Remove expanding lock (109) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Lightly grease all bearing and slide surfaces on expansion lock (109) with MB long-life grease.  
INSPECT Checking     
10 Inspect cap (110). Model 230
IMPORTANT Check cap (110) is seated firmly, check for score marks and deformation, replace if necessary.
 
IMPORTANT Notes on installing the cap on the brake stator   AH42.20-P-0530-01T
11 Install in the reverse order    
12.1 Activate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS Model 230
IMPORTANT The following steps should be run through in STAR DIAGNOSIS:
Select menu item "SBC-Sensotronic Brake Control"/"Initial startup after repair"/"Remove/ install brake shoes of parking brake". Then process all the individual steps from top to bottom.
 
12.2 Release automatic slack adjuster Model 215, 220 AR42.20-P-0520-02A
INSPECT Checking     
13 Check version of pedal assembly    
REFER TO COMPONENT MODIFICATIONS Parking brake pedal assembly modified   BT42.20-P-0510-01A
14 Adjust parking brake Model 215, 220 AR42.20-P-0540I
    Model 230 AR42.20-P-0540R
