Function requirements: 

• Voltage supply OK.
• Media Oriented System Transport bus (MOST) active.
• Portable CTEL (A34/6) inserted in the Universal Portable CTEL Interface holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15).
• Enabled SIM card inserted into Portable CTEL (A34/6).
• Correct PIN entry and successful log-in into the respective service provider network.

Placing a call 

• After entering the requested telephone number or selecting a stored telephone number using the numeric keypad of the portable CTEL (A34/6) and then confirming with the "Accept telephone call" button, the call is set up.
• After entering the requested telephone number or selecting a stored telephone number using the numeric keypad of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) of the Comand operating and display system (without navigation) (standard) or with code (352) Comand APS (with navigation) and then confirming with the "Accept telephone call" button, the call is set up.
• The telephone book can be selected with the aid of the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) using the system selection button (S110s3) and a stored telephone number can be selected via the scroll forward/back button (S110s1). The call is then set up using the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3).
• After pressing the VCS [SBS] switch (S93/2), the call can be set up via voice input with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]).

With the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system, all calls are made with the inserted portable CTEL (A34/6) via the hands-free system. "Private mode" is not possible.

The stored telephone number are either located on the SIM card or in the telephone memory.

If an audio source is active when a call is started, it is muted regardless of whether it is an incoming or outgoing call. During muting the note "Call" appears each time for instance in the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) or in the right multifunction display (A1p15) of the instrument cluster (A1).

Terminating a call 

The user has several ways of terminating the call:

• Pressing the "Terminate telephone call" button on the portable CTEL (A34/6).
• Pressing the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL).
• With code (813) voice control system (VCS) by voice input using certain commands such as "Terminate" or by pressing the VCS switch (S93/2).
• Pressing the "Terminate telephone call" button on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) of the Comand operating and display system (without navigation) (standard) or with code (352) Comand APS (with navigation).
