Controlling

The CD player with changer (A2/6) is actuated via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) and an electric wake up line, depending on the vehicle equipment. The CD player with changer (A2/6) generates messages for the following operating states:

No magazine in the CD player with changer (A2/6)
Magazine occupation
Number of current CD
Number of current title
Number of titles per CD
Current operating state (playback, pause, etc.)

The messages are forwarded via the MOST to the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) where they are interpreted.

The following functions can be controlled via the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3):

CD selection with knob or keypad entry
Title jump with rocker or keypad
Forwards and reverse
Title search to next or previous title
"Scan" function
"Repeat" function for title repetition or CD repetition
Assignment of CD names

CD playback

The audio data is stored digitally on the CD.- In the CD player with changer (A2/6) the audio CD is driven by a motor. An optical laser system scans the unlabeled side of the rotating CD without contact and converts the digital signals into electrical signals.

The electric signals are then decoded in the CD player with changer (A2/6) and forwarded via the MOST to the audio gateway control unit (N93/1). There, the audio signals are output via the vehicle speakers. With code (810) Sound system the audio signals are transmitted to the sound amplifier (A2/13) where they are amplified and then output via the vehicle speakers.

Jumps and interruptions during playback

When driving on poor roads and during hefty vibrations it may be that jumps and interruptions occur during playback. In those cases, CD mode has to be restarted when the road conditions have improved.

In the event that high humidity or if ambient temperatures vary greatly, moisture can form (formation of condensate water) in the housing of the CD player with changer (A2/6). This can also lead to playback malfunctions. In those cases, the CD player with changer (A2/6) and the rear compartment have to be adequately ventilated.
