1. Start with "Mercedes star" punch at left of window plate (arrow).

   The tip of the Mercedes star should point up.

2. Then position "W" punch with left edge at first increment mark in window plate and punch.
3. Move forward one increment mark on the scale in the window plate with each subsequent number punch until the complete vehicle identification number and then the Mercedes star have been punched into the cross member.
