The functions for voice control must be activated in the instrument cluster (A1) with the Star Diagnosis in order to be able to activate the retrofitted voice control system from the steering wheel. This is only possible, however, as of control module version 6/03 of instrument cluster (A1).
On models fitted with older control unit versions, e.g. (6/02), a new instrument cluster, version 6/03 and later, must be installed in the short term. It is then possible to activate all the functions for the voice control system by means of the Star Diagnosis. After this, the old instrument cluster can be re-installed.
In the case of instrument clusters with part nos. A220 540 20 11, A220 540 21 11, A220 540 22 11 it is also not possible in this case to activate the steering wheel control. In such cases, the instrument cluster must be replaced by a new instrument cluster.
Functions for voice control system
- CAN link to the head unit D2B radio, or as shown in the illustration, COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3)
- Steering wheel activation by means of left switch group of multifunction steering wheel (S110) is then retained and can be used.
If the vehicle is disconnected from the voltage for a lengthy period, these functions may be lost. Activation then has to be carried out once again.
