DANGER Risk of death  cased by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

4 Remove end cover   AR01.40-P-8913B
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace rear crankshaft radial sealing ring AR03.20-P-3063B 
5 Remove the cylinder head covers (15, 16) Air cleaner mounted on vehicle. AR01.20-P-5014B
Air cleaner positioned at engine side. AR01.20-P-5014BV
6 Position crankshaft to 40° after ignition TDC of cylinder 1 IMPORTANT Engine must not be rotated backwards. AR05.10-P-6858V
7 Take bottom part of oil pan (18) off top part of oil pan (19) Model 163 AR01.45-P-7555V

9 Take timing case cover (31) off crankcase NOTES Do not damage cylinder head gaskets.

10 Remove position sensor camshaft (L5/1)   AR15.10-P-2000A
11 Remove right camshaft sprocket (27) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA05.20-P-1001-01B

Inspecting timing of engine AR05.10-P-6858V
↓ If necessary after checking:  
Set the basic position of camshafts AR05.20-P-6020AU
12 Take off rear balancing weight (20) NOTES Check stem and thread length of bolt, when exceeding maximum length the bolt must be replaced, otherwise there is risk of cracks and fracture.  
IMPORTANT Balancing shaft can only be removed to the front.  
IMPORTANT Fix rear weight at crankcase with a pin or suitable drift (Ø 8.40 to 8.55 mm) for this step. Figure

13 Take off locking plate (29) at front of balancing shaft (28) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA03.20-P-1001-02A 
14 Pull out balancing shaft (28) to the front IMPORTANTInstallation:  When installing balancing shaft, pay attention to assignment of balancing shaft to engine.

15 Install in the reverse order    
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns when working in engine during starting procedure Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not grasp hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
16 Run engine and inspect for leaks    
17 Inspect cooling system for leaks IMPORTANT Warm up the engine to operating temperature.
