Various messages and indications for AIRmatic and ADS are displayed on the multifunction display in the instrument cluster as well as in the comfort and sport switches.

Turning on the ignition and starting the engine

When the ignition is turned on, the LEDs in the comfort and sport and level adjustment switches light up and display the setting selected by the driver before "Ignition OFF".

Display evaluation

If electrical faults occur in the AIRmatic or ADS system, the message "AIRmatic GO TO GARAGE! " appears on the multifunction display of the instrument cluster.

The fault is stored in the ADS suspension control module and can be read out using the diagnosis tool.

If the vehicle level at the front axle is more than 50 mm ( 60 mm) or more than 60 mm ( 70 mm) at the rear axle below the normal level, a warning appears on the multifunction display in the instrument cluster:

"AIRmatic STOP, CAR TOO LOW ". The warning disappears again when the level of the vehicle has risen to the normal level of 48 mm or 58 mm ( 58 mm or 68 mm).

Emergency running

If a fault occurs in the adaptive damping system the ADS is switched off. The damping is set to the hardest level.

If a fault occurs in the suspension system or level control system, the system attempts to maintain the set vehicle level. Manual and automatic level control are no longer possible.

Comfort and sport switch (N72/1s3)

The ADS comfort and sport switch allows the driver to choose between two damping maps. The red indicator lamp (LED) lights up in the switch (N72/1s3) when the Sport position is selected.

Level adjustment switch (N72/1s2)

The level adjustment switch allows the driver to raise the vehicle level by 25 mm ( 20 mm). The red indicator lamps (LEDs) in the switch (N72/1s2) light up when the raised level switch position is selected. The message "AIRmatic LIFTING VEHICLE " also appears on the multifunction display in the instrument cluster.

The message "AIRmatic LIFTING VEHICLE " is displayed until the desired level is achieved.

If the system stops raising the level of the vehicle as a result of the vehicle speed, the message "AIRmatic LEVEL SELECTION CANCELED " appears for approx. 10 seconds in the instrument cluster.

If the vehicle is raised several times in succession, the air compressor may switch off at times to prevent an overload. It may then take an unusually long time to raise the vehicle level.
