For accessibility of the screw plugs (7a, 7b) the rear engine crossmember must be removed and the propeller shaft (1) on the
transfer case (16) removed. If necessary in order to unscrew the screw plug (7c) of the oil drain opening, in addition the rear engine mount (45) and the right engine mount carrier (45a) must be removed.
- Raise automatic transmission with
transmission jack and
transmission platform until transfer case (16) is in installation position.
Only perform the oil level check at interior temperature and not when the transfer case is hot.
- Clean area around screw plug (7a) of oil filler opening.
- Remove screw plug (7a).
- Remove screw plug (7b) of inspection opening.
- Add oil via the oil filler opening until it runs out of the inspection opening.
This is the only way to perform the check because there is another oil chamber behind the oil filler opening which must be full.
- Let oil escape for approximately one to two minutes and then turn in the screw plug (7b) and tighten.
Replace sealing ring of screw plug (7b).
- Screw in screw plug (7a) and tighten.
Replace sealing ring of screw plug (7a).
