Adjust engine hood lock, safety hook - AR88.40-P-3030M

16.10.02 Safety information added   AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  to fingers being jammed or pinched  when Remove/install or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/tailgate or sliding roof. When moving components, ensure that no body parts or limbs are within the operating range of moving parts. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
NOTES Do not grease or oil locking system IMPORTANT Replace closing systems which are difficult to move, defective or have been greased subsequently, do not attempt to free up, repair or degrease.  
1 Open engine hood    
2 Check engine hood cables for easy motion and ensure that they can be pushed back completely. IMPORTANT An idle path of min. 3 mm should be present between nipple (1) of engine hood cable and release lever (2) on engine hood lock.
IMPORTANT If the engine hood cable is not easy to move or damaged by kinked points: ↓
 
    Replace engine hood cable. AR88.40-P-3100M 
3 Close engine hood    
4 Check gaps between engine hood and fender, correct IMPORTANT Refer to: ↓  
    Adjust engine hood. AR88.40-P-3020M 
5 Open engine hood    
6 Completely press rotary tumbler (3) of both engine hood locks down.    
7 Check engine hood catch for proper function IMPORTANT Press rotary tumbler (3) down and lock. A gap should not be present between the rotary tumbler (3) and the contact surface of the lock pawl (arrow). In the closed position, it should be possible to press the rotary tumbler (3) down further. Here, the gap between the rotary tumbler (3) and the contact surface of the lock pawl (arrow) should not exceed 1.5 mm. Replace engine hood lock in the event of malfunction:

    Model 215 AR88.40-P-3200N 
    Model 220 AR88.40-P-3200M 
8 Press control hook (4) to right to arresting point of safety hook (5). IMPORTANT Safety hook (5) should remain in its initial position.  
9 Release control hook (4). IMPORTANT The control hook (4) should move back to its initial position under the force of the spring alone.  
10 Actuate safety hook (5) by pulling handle in radiator paneling a number of times. IMPORTANT Safety hook (5) should completely pivot back to its initial position with easy motion.
IMPORTANT If safety hook (5) does not operate properly, replace.
 
11 Smoothly position engine hood on upper frame cross member. IMPORTANT Safety hook (5) must engage by itself.  
12 Close engine hood
