Control description for Cockpit Management and Data System (COMAND), general 

The COMAND is operated using the:

• Control buttons of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3)
• Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
• Voice control system (VCS [SBS])

The COMAND control description comprises the following subfunctions:

• 6-disk DVD changer base function 
• Base function, audio 
• TV base function (with code (EM8) TV tuner)

• Basic navigation function

• Actuation of audio signals (sound settings)

6-disk DVD changer base function 

If the "CD/DVD eject and load button" is pressed, the basic display appears.

Control within the menu is possible either with the cross-shaped rocker button or with the number pad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

Selection possibilities in menu:

• "Back"
  • Previous menu is called up
• "Eject all"
  • All inserted CDs or DVDs are automatically ejected one after the other
• "Fill empty locations"
  • Magazine can be filled

CDs or DVDs which are ejected but not removed are automatically pulled back in after expiration of a certain time.

Base function, audio 

If the audio base function is activated, the audio application last performed is started. To start a different audio application, it is necessary to return to the menu bar and select the "Audio" menu item.

The following differences are present for the specific countries:

The playback location is rewound by pressing and holding down the "Select station via station search, rewind, select previous track" button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The playback location is fast-forwarded by pressing and holding down the "Select station via station search, fast forward, select next track" button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

"Memory card" 

If the "Memory card" menu item is activated, the default screen appears. The following appears on the display:

If the "Media interface" menu item is activated, the default screen appears. The following appears on the display:

• Current track number
• Track name
• Graphical time and track display
• Name of current album
• Icon for medium that is connected (e.g. iPod)

Detailed display of TMC messages (without code (ZU8) USA version) 

The "TMC" menu item provides a detailed display of TMC messages. The default screen appears.

• "Display all messages"
  • All TMC messages on the route are displayed
• "Spoken route message"
  • The messages that are displayed on the route are output via the vehicle speakers
• Symbol (e.g. freeway)
  • The displayed messages are sorted according to freeway or road

The TMC messages can be output as a list or displayed on the map.

If the navigation is not active when the "TMC" menu item is activated, a list of all available TMC messages is then shown.

Route information and options 

Display of route information and options (arrival time, distance, view route on map (route browser), inhibit route) is possible via the "Route" menu item. The default screen appears.

Basic telephony function 

If the "Tel" menu item is activated, the default screen appears. The following versions are available:

Incoming telephone calls are acoustically and visually signaled on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. Control of audio signals (sound settings) 

The audio signals (tone settings) are controlled using the "Tone" menu item in the relevant base function. The default screen appears.
