Function

On the Duo-Servo brake the support device and the automatic brake adjuster between the brake shoes is free to move, i.e. supported on a floating bearing

This support only serves to transmit the actuating force (support force) from one brake shoe to the other and as an adjusting device.

When the brake is actuated by the wheel brake cylinder (1) acting on two sides while driving forwards, the brake shoe (6) is pressed against the brake drum in the direction of drum rotation as is the brake shoe (9) via the automatic brake adjuster (7) as a transfer component.

The same process occurs in the opposite direction while driving backwards.

Thus both brake shoes are leading shoes while driving forwards and backwards.
