Function requirements, general 

Volume/tone adjustments, general 

All volume and tone settings can be made via the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. This is performed either manually by the user or automatically by the speed-dependent volume control (SDV [GAL]).

The manual volume/tone settings can be made using the following components:

The volume and tone setting function is composed of the following subfunctions:

IMPORTANT In addition to the general tone settings such as bass, treble, balance and fader, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit also has the "Logic 7" surround sound function on vehicles with code (EU9) Surround sound system (harman/kardon Logic 7).

IMPORTANT As of 1.9.09: With the audio source "AUX" (via media interface adapter cable (accessories) (with code (EH3) Media interface) or via the electrical connector of AUX connection (X39/45)), the selections "Standard" and "Boost" are possible in the "Volume" menu. The input level can be increased by selecting "Boost".

By pressing the + and - button, for setting specific functions and volume control, the volume for the desired audio function to be increased or decreased.

The control signals are routed to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route:

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit allows the volume and tone settings (bass, treble, balance, fader and tone options) to be set manually for each audio source with the rotary actuator. The required tone settings can be made using the "Tone" menu. They can be set separately for each function (e.g. CD, radio reception, traffic announcements). The control signals are read in and evaluated within the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The desired settings are transferred via MOST to the sound system amplifier on vehicles with code (EU9) Surround sound system (harman/kardon Logic 7), and vehicles with code (EU9) Surround sound system (harman/kardon Logic 7) also have the "Logic 7" surround sound function.

If the tone emphasis is changed (balance, fader) the volume relationship between the individual speakers changes relative to each other.

IMPORTANT On vehicles without code (EU9) Surround sound system (harman/kardon Logic 7), the selected settings are processed and amplified internally and output at the speaker system.

IMPORTANT The current tone settings are shown on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The volume setting can be carried out separately for each audio source. Predefined settings can be selected and reset directly to the manufacturer default setting via the system settings.

Function sequence for speed-dependent volume control 

The speed-dependent volume control can be used to adapt the volume to the noise level in the vehicle interior. In this case, the vehicle speed signal is used as the reference value. This procedure will run automatically. After evaluating the relationship indicator, the audio output is matched to the noise level in the vehicle interior.

Depending on the vehicle speed signal, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit raises or lowers the output level of the audio signals.

The vehicle speed signal travels to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route:

The audio signals are output on vehicles with code (EU9) Surround sound system (harman/kardon Logic 7) by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via MOST to the sound system amplifier and from there via direct lines to the following speakers:

On vehicles without code (EU9) Surround sound system (harman/ kardon Logic 7), the audio signals are output by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via direct lines to the following speakers:
