The fuel pump (M3) draws the fuel down from the swirl pot. While cornering with a low level of fuel in the fuel tank, it prevents the fuel pump from drawing air.

The intank fuel pump ensures that the swirl pot is filled with fuel for every operating condition. It is actuated by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) and has a delivery rate of around 220 liters/ hour at 0.3 bar.

The swirl pot is also fed by the suction jet pump (in the swirl pot) that is powered through the backflow from the fuel pressure regulator (5.0 bar).

A throttle reduces the quantity of fuel passing into the fuel return line to the suction jet pump to 50 l/hour (at 5.0 bar). The fuel pressure regulator (5.3 bar) prevents the fuel pressure from exceeding 5.3 bar by means of the throttle.

IMPORTANT The components in the fuel tank (e.g. the intank fuel pump) cannot be removed.

If components are defective the fuel tank must be completely replaced (except the case of a defective fuel level sensor or (for) fuel tank pressure sensor)!
