REMOVING Removal

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
1 Disconnect battery ground line

2 Remove side trim in trunk IMPORTANT On left and right.

3 Remove SAM signal acquisition and actuation module control unit with fuse and relay module from the luggage compartment IMPORTANT Do not disconnect electrical connectors.

4 Remove right rear seat cushion

5 Remove side upholstery from right rear seat backrest    
6 Remove paneling on B-pillar IMPORTANT Undo in lower area to the right far enough until the cable duct is accessible.

7 Remove front floor covering (right)

8 Remove COMAND operating, display and controller unit    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   IMPORTANT With COMAND (without navigation system), code 526, with COMAND APS (with navigation system), code 527. AR82.85-P-1000T
INSTALLING Install     
9 Retrofit iPod interface wiring harness   AZ82.60-P-0001-01T 
10 Retrofit iPod wiring harness IMPORTANT In both variants the glove compartment remains installed.  
    IMPORTANT With air conditioning (or Tempmatic for USA), code 580.
As of 09.2004 with comfort automatic air conditioning, code 581.
AZ82.60-P-0001-02T 
    IMPORTANT Up to 08.2004 with comfort automatic air conditioning, code 581. AZ82.60-P-0001-02TTT 
11 Retrofit iPod interface   AZ82.60-P-0001-03T 
12 Glue in iPod cradle (29) in glove box using MB universal glue IMPORTANT Can be stuck to clipboard or base of glove compartment.  
    MB universal glue *BR00.45-Z-1003-02A 
13 Connect iPod (1) to iPod wiring harness plug (23) in glove compartment    
14 Place iPod (1) into the iPod cradle (29)    
15 Install remaining parts onto vehicle IMPORTANT Operation steps 8 to 1.  
16 Perform retrofit variant coding IMPORTANT Only perform if telephone not installed.
