  Draining     
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel and risk of injury  to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

1 Open fuel filler cap, remove and reinstall IMPORTANT to release the excess pressure in the fuel tank.  
2.1 Remove trim panels of cylinder head cover Engine 646 except 646.8, 647 AR01.20-P-5014-02A
    Engine 648 AR01.20-P-5014-02C
2.2 Remove top engine cover IMPORTANT Engine 646.8: Pull off the top engine cover from above.  
    Engine 642 AR01.10-P-2405TI
    Engine 628 AR01.10-P-2405TD
3.1 Open CLIC clamp and detach fuel return hose (2a) from fuel return line (2b) Engine 642, 646, 647, 648
NOTES Do not use pointed or sharp-edged tools to remove the fuel return hose (2) otherwise it will be damaged.
IMPORTANT Catch feathering-out fuel with rag.
NOTESInstallation:  Fit new CLIC clamps otherwise leaks can occur. Never use screw clamps or spring band clamps.
 
    COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS *WH58.30-Z-1011-02A 
3.2 Remove fuel return hose (2a) from fuel return line (2b) Engine 628
IMPORTANT Catch escaping fuel with an absorbent rag.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA07.16-P-1016-01C 
4 Fit drain hose (1) to fuel return line (2b) and insert end piece into safety tank (3)    
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the running engine Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

5 Crank the engine and empty fuel tank NOTES Pay attention to the filling capacity of the fuel tank to prevent an overflow from the safety tank (3)!
IMPORTANT The fuel tank is emptied by sampling the excess fuel delivered.
 
    FLUID SPECIFICATION *BF47.10-P-1001-01A 
6 Install in the reverse order    
  Fill     
7 Open fuel filler flap and remove filler cap    
8 Pump fuel out of the safety tank (3) through the filler neck into the fuel tank NOTES Connect the ground cable of the COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Saugmaster suction device to the vehicle to prevent electrostatic charging and the formation of arcs.
IMPORTANT Observe manufacturer's operating instructions and notes.

9 Mount filler cap and close fuel filler flap    
10 Remove ground cable of COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Saugmaster suction device    
INSPECT Checking     
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the running engine Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

11 Carry out an engine test run and check the fuel system for leaks NOTES In the event of a leak, determine and eliminate the cause, otherwise malfunctions and serious environmental pollution may occur.
