MODIFICATION NOTES

17.3.06 Deactivate/activate Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC), omitted    
INSPECT Checking     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by body parts being jammed or crushed. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by brake fluid spraying out at high pressure when working on the SBC brake system Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS. AS42.46-Z-0001-01A
NOTES Notes on repairs to brake system   AH42.00-P-0003-01A
1 Operate parking brake pedal and check pedal travel of parking brake pedal IMPORTANT If the pedal travel is not within the tolerance range: ↓
Adjusting parking brake.
 
Actuating force on parking brake pedal *BE42.20-P-1001-01E 
Notches through which the parking brake pedal must be depressed *BE42.20-P-1002-01E 
REMOVING Removing     
2 Unscrew one wheel bolt on the left and right rear wheel NOTES Light alloy wheels must be removed due to the risk of damage.  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary   AP40.10-P-4050TX
3 Preloading automatic cable slack adjuster   AR42.20-P-0520-01TX
  Adjust     
4 Turning adjusting wheels (c) IMPORTANT Turn adjusting wheels (c) using a screwdriver until the brake shoes (103) contact the parking brake drums and it is no longer possible to turn the rear wheels or brake disks (61) by hand.
IMPORTANT Adjustment direction for applying the brake shoes: Turn the left adjusting wheel (c) in the direction of travel and the right adjusting wheel (c) opposite to the direction of travel
 
5 Loosen adjusting wheels (c) IMPORTANT Release left and right adjusting wheel (c) by the same number of teeth (10 teeth). It must be possible to turn the rear wheels or brake disks (61) completely freely by hand.  
6 Release automatic slack adjuster   AR42.20-P-0520-02TX
INSPECT Checking     
7 Actuate parking brake pedal several times IMPORTANT When doing so check the pedal travel of the parking brake pedal, readjust if necessary. Then release the parking brake.

Notches through which the parking brake pedal must be depressed *BE42.20-P-1002-01E 
8 Check the unobstructed movement of the rear wheels or brake disks (61)    
INSTALLING Install     
9 Mount wheel bolts or light alloy wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary   AP40.10-P-4050TX
