Remove/install airbag unit on the steering wheel - AR91.60-P-0660Q

MODIFICATION NOTES

3.3.04 "Disconnect/connect battery ground line" removed
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units. Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100°C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A

IMPORTANT Legal requirements on handling and storing airbags and emergency tensioning retractor units   AH91.00-P-0004-01A 
1 Switch off ignition, detach transmitter key from electronic ignition switch control unit IMPORTANT On vehicles with Keyless Go, code 889: Press Keyless Go start/stop button repeatedly until ignition is switched off. Remove transmitter key from vehicle and store it at a location beyond its transmission range (minimum distance 2 m).  
2 Remove bolts (1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.60-P-1001-01A

3 Lift driver airbag unit (2) and release electrical connectors at driver airbag ignition squib 1 (R12/13) and driver airbag ignition squib 2 (R12/14) IMPORTANT Electrical connectors of driver airbag ignition squib 1 (R12/13) and of driver airbag ignition squib 2 (R12/14) are color coded.  
SPECIAL TOOL Fig 3
4 Disconnect multifunction steering wheel electrical connector (3)    
5 Remove driver airbag unit (2) IMPORTANT If the driver airbag unit (2) is replaced, it must be disposed of correctly. Refer to: ↓  
Make airbag units unusable (not AUSTRIA ONLYSWITZERLAND ONLYGERMANY ONLY ) AR91.60-P-0611A 
REFER TO FORMS Notes on disposing of airbag and emergency tensioning retractor units OS91.00-P-0001-01A 
6 Install in the reverse order    
7 Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS, read out and erase fault memory    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
