Function to display malfunction/warning indication via indication lights - GF54.30-P-2011QO

Left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1) and right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2) 

The following 2 lamps are integrated in the instrument cluster (A1) as an optical check:

The left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1) and right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2) are actuated differently depending on the function.

Turn signals 

With direction indicator flashing either the left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1) or right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2) are actuated. The signal for actuating the left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1) or right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2) comes via the controller Area Network bus Class B (interior) CAN-B from the steering column module (N80) to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2).

If one of the turn signal lamps fails, then the left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1) or right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2) is actuated at twice the frequency.

Hazard warning flashers 

With hazard warning flashing the left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1) and right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2) are actuated. The signal for actuating with hazard warning flashing comes via CAN-B from the upper control panel control unit (N72/1).

Anti-theft alarm system (EDW) turn signal indicating 

With hazard warning flashing the left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1) and right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2) are actuated. The signal for actuating with ATA alarm flashing comes from the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) via CAN-B.

IMPORTANT While direction signaling is only possible when circuit 15 is switched ON, the other types of turn signal modes are also possible when circuit 15 is switched OFF. An acoustic signal accompanies the rhythmic flashing of the indicator lamp (A1h2).

When different demands for flasher operation are present, the system assigns hierarchical priorities in the following sequence:

High beam indicator lamp (A1e3) 

With "High beam ON" and "Headlamp flasher" the actuation of the high beam indicator lamp (A1e3) takes place by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) via CAN-B.

Fuel reserve warning lamp (A1e4) 

The fuel reserve indicator lamp (A1e4) lights up when the fuel level sinks to the reserve level. Control of this lamp is linked to the fuel level and reserve gage (A1p2).

Brake fluid and parking brake warning lamp (A1e7) 

If at the start of a journey the parking brake is not released or the minimal level of the brake fluid is dropped below, the brake fluid and parking brake warning lamp (A1e7) is actuated. The signal for actuating the brake fluid and parking brake warning lamp (A1e7) comes from the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) via CAN-B.

Seat belt warning light (A1e9) 

The seat belt warning light (A1e9) is not installed in all national versions.

IMPORTANT European New Car Assessment Program:

The warning tone frequency t = 6 seconds is switched off immediately when the driver and front passenger are belted up.

The timer control t = 93 seconds runs on in the background. If the driver and front passenger undo their seat belts within this time the warning tone frequency is output again.

This warning is output once for the journey, but CAN-Be reset active by:

The signal for actuating the seat belt warning lamp (A1e9) comes from the driver front seat adjustment control unit with memory and easy entry (N32/1) via CAN-B.

Airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) 

The airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) is triggered when there is a fault in the supplemental restraint system (SRS). It is triggered directly by the restraint systems control unit (N2/7).

ABS indicator lamp (A1e17) 

The ABS indicator lamp (A1e17) is actuated if there is a fault in the antilock brake system (ABS). The signal for actuating the ABS indicator lamp (A1e17) comes from the ESP and BAS control unit (N47-5) via CAN-C.

Engine diagnosis indicator lamp (A1e58) or CHECK ENGINE indicator lamp (A1e26) 

Depending on country variant, vehicles are equipped with either the engine diagnosis malfunction indicator lamp (A1e58) or the CHECK ENGINE malfunction indicator lamp (A1e26). The engine diagnosis indicator lamp (A1e58) or CHECK ENGINE indicator lamp (A1e26) is actuated if there is a fault in the injection system, in the ignition system or in the exhaust emission system. The signal for actuating the engine diagnosis indicator lamp (A1e58) or CHECK ENGINE indicator lamp (A1e26) comes from the CDI control unit (N3/9) or ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) via CAN-C.

DTR warning lamp (A1e59) with code (219) Distronic (DTR) 

If the safe distance to the vehicle ahead is not maintained the DTR warning lamp (A1e59) lights up red, in addition an acoustic message sounds. The signal for actuating the DTR warning lamp (A1e59) comes from the DTR control unit (N63/1) via CAN-C.

IMPORTANT On vehicles except code (219) Distronic (DTR) the DTR warning lamp (A1e59) lights up with status "Circuit 15R ON", the DTR warning lamp (A1e59) goes out with status "Circuit 61 ON" (engine running). It has no function.

Roll bar (RB [URB]) warning lamp (A1e29) on model 209.4 

If the roll bars (RB) have triggered, the roll bar (RB [URB]) warning lamp (A1e29) is actuated directly by the power soft top control unit (N52) via CAN-B.

Low beam indicator lampA1e67 

The signal to actuate the low beam indicator lamp (A1e67) comes via CAN-B from the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

Light sources 

All the indicator lamps and warning lamps of the instrument cluster (A1) are equipped with light emitting diodes (LED).

IMPORTANT Apart from the actuations described above all the indicator lamps and warning lamps are also actuated on the lamp test with the exception of the following indicator lamps and warning lamps:

IMPORTANT With some indicator lamps and warning lamps, e.g. the engine diagnosis indicator lamp (A1e58), a warning message in the multifunction display (A1p13) takes place in parallel for the actuation. While the warning message CAN-Be acknowledged depending on the category, the indicator lamps and warning lamps light up, as long as the operating fault exists. Messages cannot be acknowledged.
