Fiber optical cable wiring harness connecting plan
Illustrated on vehicle with CD player with changer (A2/6)
Subscriber sequence after installation (must be complied with):
- Radio (A2) or COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3)
- Sound amplifier (A2/13) or CD player with changer (in trunk) (A2/6) .
- Cellular telephone transmitter and receiver unit, D2B (A35/13)
back to:
- Radio (A2) or
COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3)
Optical waveguides are given new consecutive numbers after installation of a new ring subscriber (note information flow).
Vehicles with sound amplifier (code 810) are converted in the same manner.
- Detach connector housing from CD player with changer (in trunk) (A2/6) or sound amplifier (A2/13).
- Release connector housing, remove white insert (ws) from connector housing of CD player with changer (in trunk) (A2/6) or sound amplifier (A2/13) and cut off (no longer required).
- Insert new fiber optical cable module M2 (new) with white insert (ws) into connector housing for CD player with changer (in trunk) (A2/6) or
sound amplifier (A2/13) and lock housing.

- Attach connector housing to CD player with changer (in trunk) (A2/6, see arrow) or sound amplifier (A2/13).
- Route fiber optical cable (M2, new) along existing wiring in left side of trunk to cable duct on rear panel and on to the left rear cable duct.
Observe special routing guidelines for fiber optical cables.
- Route fiber optical cable module (M2, new) in cable duct in vehicle interior to D2B telephone transmitter/receiver (A35/13) as shown in illustration and fix in position using adhesive felt.
Observe special routing guidelines for fiber optical cables.
- Insert red insert (rt) of new fiber optical cable module (M2) in a new connector housing.
The new connector housing is for the D2B telephone transmitter/receiver (A35/13).
- Insert white insert (ws) of a new fiber optical cable module (M3) into new connector housing for D2B telephone transmitter/receiver (A35/13) and lock connector housing.
- Connect the new connector housing to D2B telephone transmitter/receiver (A35/13).
- Route fiber optical cable module (M3, new) in the cable ducts in the vehicle interior to the radio or
COMAND installation location as shown in illustration and fix in position with adhesive felt.
Observe special routing guidelines for fiber optical cables.
Route any excess lengths in the area of the device plate under the right rear seat in a loop that corresponds to the routing guidelines for optical waveguides.
- Release connector housing from radio (A2) or COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3), remove red (rt) insert and cut off (no longer required).
- Insert red insert (rt) of new fiber optical cable module (M3) into connector housing and lock connector housing.
Connector housing is attached to the radio (A2) or COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) when radio or COMAND is installed.
