	Remove/install
	Risk of injury. Injuries may result when performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units.	Store airbag unit with deployment face up, do not subject to temperatures above 100°C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.
	Risk of injury. Injury may result when the tension in the spring in the automatic belt retractor is released.	Never disassemble automatic belt retractors.
1	Remove left or right paneling at center pillar top (2)		AR68.30-P-1077V
2	Remove left or right door sill molding		AR68.30-P-4100V
3	Pull off edge guard (3) in area of rear paneling (5)
4	Undo rear paneling (5) at side until the automatic belt retractor (1) is accessible
5	Unscrew bolt (6) and remove seat belt guide bracket (7)		*BA91.40-P-1002-01A
6	Detach electrical connector (8) on driver belt force limiter (R12/27) or front passenger belt force limiter (R12/26)
7	Unscrew bolt (9) on automatic belt retractor (1)		*BA91.40-P-1004-01A
8	Remove automatic belt retractor (1)	Installation: check for proper seating in the catch (arrow). Do not open automatic belt retractor (1). If the automatic belt retractor (1) is replaced, the faulty automatic belt retractor (1) must be disposed of properly: ↓

9	Install in the reverse order
10	Read out DTC memory
	Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS, interrogate fault memory		AD00.00-P-2000-04A
		Diagnosis system STAR DIAGNOSIS	*WH58.30-Z-1048-13A
