REMOVING Removing
DANGER Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  caused by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes. Pour brake fluid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A
NOTES Notes on repairs to brake system   AH42.00-P-0003-01A
NOTES Brake fluid notes   AH42.50-P-0001-01A
1 Switch off ignition
2 Remove cover (1) from reservoir (7)
CLEAN Clean
3 Clean area surrounding reservoir (7) thoroughly NOTES Before opening the brake system the area around the separation point should be cleaned thoroughly. Even the smallest particles of dirt, introduced into the hydraulic components, can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the brake system.
Only use clean, lint free rags and cleaner free of mineral oil. Do not use any compressed-air for cleaning when the brake system is open.

4 Unlock and disconnect connector (5) of brake fluid indicator switch (S11) NOTES Put the connector (5) in a safe and protected place; brake fluid must not be allowed to enter the connector.
5 Unscrew cap (2) and take strainer out of reservoir (7) NOTES To prevent paint damage, immediately rinse off any escaped brake fluid using water.
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.50-P-1001-01D
6 Mark fill level on reservoir (7) and suction off brake fluid
7 Detach hydraulic lines (3a, 3b) from reservoir (7) IMPORTANT Seal connections immediately. Secure the hydraulic lines (3a, 3b) at a high position to prevent brake fluid from escaping and air from entering the hydraulic lines (3a, 3b).
    SPECIAL TOOL Figure
8 Detach hydraulic line (4) from reservoir (7) Vehicles with transmission 716 except Sequentronic automated manual transmission (SEQ), code 424
IMPORTANT Seal off connection immediately. Secure the hydraulic line (4) at a high position to prevent brake fluid from escaping and air from entering the hydraulic line (4).
9 Unscrew bolt (6)
10 Pull reservoir (7) out of brake operating unit (BOU) (8) NOTES The brake fluid must always reach the edge of the openings of the brake operating unit (BOU) (8). Even the smallest particles of dirt, introduced into the hydraulic components, can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the brake system.
INSTALLING Install
11 Place reservoir (7) on brake operating unit (BOU) (8) IMPORTANTInstallation:  The seals do not have a collar and, when installing the reservoir (7), may be pressed out of the brake operating unit (BOU) (8).
Therefore, mount the reservoir (7) vertically on the brake operating unit (BOU) (8) and simultaneously press into the front and rear seals.

12 Fit bolt (6) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.46-P-1002-02A
13 Attach hydraulic line (4) Vehicles with transmission 716 except Sequentronic automated manual transmission (SEQ), code 424
14 Fit hydraulic lines (3a, 3b)
15 Fill reservoir (7) up to 10 millimeters below the upper edge of the filler neck with brake fluid NOTES Add brake fluid manually. Do not use a bleeder unit to ensure that air does not enter the brake system.
IMPORTANT Fill the reservoir (7) correctly as the overflows to the individual chambers are located right at the top of the reservoir upper shell.

16 Mount plug (5)
17 Push together approx. 5-times the hydraulic line (3b) on the SBC hydraulic unit (A7/3) IMPORTANT In order to push any air out of the hydraulic line (3b).
18 Push hydraulic line (4) down as far as possible approx. 5-times Vehicles with transmission 716 except Sequentronic automated manual transmission (SEQ), code 424
IMPORTANT In order to push any air out of the hydraulic line (4).

19 Top up fluid in reservoir (7) up to marking
INSPECT Checking
20 Check leaktightness of connecting points of hydraulic lines (3b, 4) IMPORTANT Connect the COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS electric brake fluid change/bleeder unit and apply the maximum filling pressure (2.5 to 3.0 bar) constantly for 10 minutes. Then inspect the hydraulic lines (3b, 4) very closely  for leaks at the connecting points (use a paper tissue). Even the smallest drops of brake fluid are a sign of leakage!
IMPORTANT Visual inspection alone is not enough as even the smallest of leaks, which are not detectable at first glance, can lead to malfunctions in the brake system.
