Volume setting 

Changing the volume of an audio source has an identical effect on all other audio sources. The volume is also jointly regulated within the service sources in the same manner. The volume of voice output for navigation can be changed during voice output. An adjustable (in the "settings" menu) difference between the audio signal volume and the voice output volume is maintained automatically. This means that voice output remains audible even in the case of loud audio output.

Tone setting 

Manual tone settings (treble, bass) can be made for each audio source on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The tone setting selected for the radio simultaneously applies to traffic radio messages.

Settings which are selected for voice output during navigation also influence the voice control system (VCS).

The following tone optimizations are possible:

• Ambient low
• ambient medium
• Ambient high
• Language
• Driver optimized

With a change in sound emphasis (balance, fader) the ratio of the volume of the individual speakers changes. The functionality for the volume and tone settings is implemented in the audio gateway control unit (N93/1); the final amplification of the audio signals, however, is performed by the sound amplifier (A2/13).

The display and the control of the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) are performed at the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).

SDC, DRO 

Via the speed-dependent volume control (SDV) and the automatic vehicle interior noise adaptation Dynamic Range Optimization (DRO), the volume is adapted to the background noise in the vehicle interior. In the process the vehicle speed signal and signal input to the sound amplifier microphone (B25/6) are used as a relationship indicator.
