Function
The steering column module (N80) detects the position of the left and right turn signal switch (S4s1). The steering column module (N80) is the master control unit for all turn signal functions and forwards the "left turn signal" or "right turn signal" over CAN-B (CANB) to the corresponding control units.
Left turn signal
The driver-side SAM control unit (N10/10) actuates the left turn signal lamp (E1e5) in the left front lamp unit.
The left door control unit (N69/1) actuates the left outside mirror turn signal lamp (E6/5).
The rear SAM control unit (N10/8) actuates the left turn signal lamp (E3e1) in the left taillamp.
Right turn signal
The passenger-side SAM control unit (N10/11) actuates the right turn signal lamp (E2e5) in the right front lamp unit.
The right door control unit (N69/2) actuates the right outside mirror turn signal lamp (E6/6).
The rear SAM control unit (N10/8) actuates the right turn signal lamp (E4e1) in the right taillamp.
Feedback
In the instrument cluster (A1), the corresponding left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1) or right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2) is actuated as a visual feedback.
For acoustic feedback, the audible turn signal indicator (A1h2) in the instrument cluster (A1) is activated.
If a turn signal lamp (E1e5, E2e5, E3e1, E4e1) or the left outside mirror turn signal lamp (E6/5) or the right outside mirror turn signal lamp (E6/6) fails, the flashing frequency of the corresponding left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1) or right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2) in the instrument cluster (A1) doubles.
End flashing action
Actuation of the turn signals is terminated automatically by means of automatic reset when the steering wheel is turned in the opposite direction or by manually moving the left and right turn signal switch (S4s1) to the middle position.
Turn signal lamp touch control, function sequence
The operational sequence for the turn signal lamp touch control is the same, in relation to the signal flow, as that for the turn signal indicator. The difference lies in the actuation and termination of the turn signal procedure.
For one-touch turn signaling, the left and right turn signal switch (S4s1) may only be briefly (approx. 0.5 s) moved into the desired signaling position. Without the left and right turn signal switch (S4s1) latching in the turn signal position, this triggers 3 turn signal cycles.
One-touch turn signaling is interrupted by triggering the hazard warning flasher function or by operating the left and right turn signal switch (S4s1) in the respective opposite direction.
