The position of the steering column is electrically adjustable manually  using the switch in the steering column adjustment and entrance/exit aid switch group (S59/1)  in the jacket tube module (N80)  :

The fore/aft adjustment has one adjusting speed, the tilt position adjustment has two adjusting speeds.

With the memory function  the steering column positions can also be stored in addition to the driver's seat/interior rearview/exterior rearview mirror adjustments. The stored positions are approached automatically when the respective memory button in the left front door control module (N69/1)(right-hand steering: front right door control module (N69/2) is pressed. The steering column adjustment motor group (M20) is actuated in parallel.

The entrance/exit aid function  makes it easier for the driver to get in and out with the steering column raised upwards.
