Function 

The liquid refrigerant flows under pressure through the receiver/drier, where it flows through a stainless steel mat to the filter block. The filter block can absorb a small quantity of water. The pores in the filter block are matched precisely to the molecular size of the refrigerant. This allows the refrigerant to flow through the filter block.

All other substances are held back and stored by this molecular sieve. The purified refrigerant then flows through a riser pipe to the expansion valve.
