By pressing the "open trunk lid" button the transmitter key  transmits a signal to the corresponding receiver in the vehicle via radio frequency or infrared. These receive the signal and convey the contents to the EIS control module (N73)  as a CAN message.

The control module (N73)  checks the access authorization. If access authorization is granted, the EIS control module (N73)  sends the command to open the trunk lid to the PSE control module (combined functions) (A37)  via CAN. The PSE control module (combined functions) (A37)  opens the trunk lid pneumatically  , unless the trunk lid lock  is secured by the 90° position of the lock cylinder. The anti-theft alarm (ATA)  is only partially deactivated.
