PAX limp-home wheel, function - GF40.10-P-0002MB
MODEL 220 with CODE (979) Special protection version with PAX system limp-home wheel
General
The tire of the PAX system limp-home wheel is designed such that the tire cannot separate from the rim if a sudden loss of pressure occurs.
The way the tire is anchored onto the rim and the bead design and construction of the tire both ensure that the tire remains fixed to the rim in all situations.
This special design guarantees excellent vehicle handling in normal driving conditions.
If the tire becomes damaged (sudden loss of pressure), the PAX limp-home wheel offers a high degree of safety and allows the vehicle to be driven up to 30 km at a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
The air pressure of the tire is monitored by a tire pressure monitor unit. Information from this control unit is passed to the instrument cluster (A1). The driver is informed of any pressure loss via the multifunction display (A1p13).
In conjunction with a support ring, the driver can therefore continue to drive the car without air pressure up to 30 km at a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
