Rack-and-pinion steering, function when steering - GF46.25-P-3400A
MODEL 171.4, 203, 209, 211 with CODE (213a) Speed-sensitive power steering
MODELS 215, 220, 230
Illustrated on model 220, left wheel lock
Illustrated on model 220, right wheel lock
When the steering wheel is turned, the drive pinion (4b) rests on the rack (4j). The rotary slide (4k) is twisted against the surrounding pilot bushing (4i) by the torsion bar (4a), thus changing the relative positions of the control grooves. The high-pressure oil stream passes into the right working cylinder (left wheel lock) (I) or into the left working cylinder (right wheel lock) (II), causing the axial movement of the rack (4j) to the right or left.
The oil from the unpressurized working cylinder is displaced. It flows through the open return grooves in the pilot bushing (4i) back to the supply reservoir of the power steering pump.
