REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to scalding caused by contact with hot coolant spray
Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing coolant.
Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C.
Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid.
Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries
No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of accident  due to vehicle starting off when engine is running
Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running
Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

1 Turn key in electronic ignition switch EIS to position "0". IMPORTANT Key cannot be withdrawn.
IMPORTANT With Keyless Go, code 889: Press Start-Stop button once more until ignition is off, remove Keyless Go cards from vehicle and place out of the transmitter range.
 
2 Disconnect ground line from battery   AR54.10-P-0003I

3 Remove fan shroud   AR20.40-P-6800AC 
4 Drain coolant at radiator Engine 137 AR20.00-P-1142HA 
    Engine 275 AR20.00-P-1142H 
NOTES Notes on coolant   AH20.00-N-2080-01A 
5 Remove front parts of the fender liner in the front fender   AR88.10-P-1300M
6 Remove both lamp units Model 215 AR82.10-P-4730N
    Model 220 without Xenon headlamp unit AR82.10-P-4730M
    Model 220 with Code 612b Xenon headlamp unit AR82.10-P-4730MA
7 Detach left and right front engine hood catch (1) from radiator crossmember (2) Model 215 AR88.40-P-3200N
    Model 220 AR88.40-P-3200M
8 Remove both clamps (3) from radiator crossmember (2)    
9 Remove bolts (4)    
10 Detach right bracket (5) of radiator crossmember (2)    
11 Remove radiator crossmember (2)    
12 Unscrew bolts (6) at both headlight mounts    
13.1 Remove bracket (7) for ABC distributor Vehicles with Active Body Control (Code 487) only.  
14 Dismount transmission oil line (8) at radiator (9) IMPORTANT Seal the connections.  
    SPECIAL TOOL Set of plugs Figure
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA20.20-P-1001-01A 
15.1 Unscrew bolts (10) for low temperature water circuit circulation pump bracket at radiator (9) Engine 275  
16 Remove bracket (11)    
17 Remove left and right plastic cover (12)    
18.1 Unscrew bolts (13) for low temperature water circuit cooler at radiator (9) Engine 275  
19 Unscrew bolt (14) for A/C line bracket at radiator (9)    
20 Disconnect coolant lines (15, 16, 17) at the radiator (9) IMPORTANTInstallation:  fit new O-rings to the connection fittings.
INSPECT Inspect coolant lines (15, 16, 17) for damage, replace if necessary.
 
21 Unscrew bolts (18) at radiator (9)    
22 Install in the reverse order    
23 Pour in coolant Engine 137 AR20.00-P-1142HA 
    Engine 275 AR20.00-P-1142H 
24 Bleed cooling system   AR20.00-P-1142-06GA 
25 Inspecting cooling system for leaks   AR20.00-P-1010HA 
26 Check oil level in automatic transmission, correct if necessary   AR27.00-P-0100AC
27.1 Check / adjust the sensor setting of Distronic (DTR) Vehicles with Distronic (DTR) Code 219a AR30.30-P-1000R
