Deactivate easy entry/exit function |
Vehicles with memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors) code 275
Otherwise the driver seat and steering wheel move into a different position if the driver door is opened or closed for example. Damage to the upper frame can occur when the
holding device is installed. |
|
| |
|
It is switched off using the buttons on the steering wheel in the "Comfort" menu on the multifunction display, see vehicle owner's manual. |
|
| 7 |
Move front wheels to straight-ahead position and secure steering wheel. |
To do this, swivel the sun visor to one side and insert the
retainer.
The steering wheel must not be turned when the steering coupling has been removed. This will damage the fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact beyond repair. |

Insert suitable tool in the bore of the steering coupling (25) and pull lower steering shaft (80a) upwards out of the steering coupling (25) |
Do not counterhold at the rubber boot or at the plastic temperature protection disk for the lower steering shaft (80a). Do not use force (hammer blows, a lot of leverage), if necessary expand clamping groove slightly using a screwdriver.
Installation:
When inserting, observe the trunnion of the steering coupling (25) and groove of the lower steering shaft (80a) (arrows). |

Detach torque struts (18) on front axle carrier (1) and fold forwards |
The hexagon bolt (18a) must not turn. When releasing the nut, it is essential to counterhold the hexagon bolt (18a), otherwise the lock tabs for caster adjustment will be sheared off in the rubber mount.
Installation:
Only tighten the hexagon bolt (18a) when the vehicle is in the ready-to-drive condition. The rubber mount in the torque strut (18) must not be assembled under stress. |

The hexagon bolt (17a) must not be twisted. When releasing the nut, it is essential to counterhold the hexagon bolt (17a), otherwise the lock tabs for caster adjustment will be sheared off in the rubber mount.
Installation:
Do not tighten the nut of the hexagon bolt (17a) until the vehicle is in the ready-to-drive condition. The rubber mount in the spring control arm (17) must not be installed under stress |

The bolts (1f) are self-tapping, so the following points must be observed:
- Never
recut the thread in the longitudinal member
- Replace bolts
- Use only original bolts (4 x)
- Do not attach bolts at an angle when screwing in
- Do not use an impact bolt tightener
- Observe tightening torque
Installation:
Before tightening the bolts (1f), align the front axle carrier (1) on the left and right using drift (a, 14.8 mm diameter). |
