REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
NOTES If there is visible damage, e.g. crack formation or deformation of the front axle carrier (1), these parts must be replaced
NOTES When working on the front-end assembly, be careful not to scratch, mark or notch the surfaces of aluminum parts. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected
NOTES Replace self-locking nuts and bolts.   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
IMPORTANTInstallation  Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.
1 Deactivate easy entry/exit function for driver seat and steering wheel Vehicles with memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors) code 275
NOTES Otherwise the driver seat and steering wheel move into a different position if the driver door is opened or closed for example.
Damage to the upper frame can occur when the SPECIAL TOOL holding device is installed.
IMPORTANT Deactivation is done using the buttons on the steering wheel in the "comfort" menu of the multifunction display; see operator's manual.

2 Turn front wheels to straight-ahead position and secure steering wheel with SPECIAL TOOL retainer. IMPORTANT Swivel sun visor to side and SPECIAL TOOL insert retainer.
NOTES On a disengaged steering coupling (25) the steering wheel should not be turned because the spiral contact coil will be destroyed.

10 Unplug right front axle electrical distributor and left major assemblies compartment connectors (X62/6, X62/7) in wheelhouse, unclip lines. IMPORTANT Connectors of damping valve unit and rpm sensor. To detach, press in spring (arrow).
11 Unplug right front brake pad contact sensor connector (S10/2x1) in wheelhouse and unclip lines. IMPORTANT Only fitted on the right-hand side.
NOTES Notes on installing brake pad wear sensor contact sensors   AH42.10-P-0003-01A
DANGER Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury caused by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A
12 Unscrew brake lines from brake hoses (39) and seal openings. IMPORTANT When loosening or tightening the brake line to the brake hose (39) ensure that the bracket is not twisted. Counterhold at two flats on brake hose (39) using open wrench if necessary.
NOTES Seal line connections immediately with SPECIAL TOOL plugs. The brake fluid expansion reservoir must not be allowed to run completely empty.

16 Detach exhaust shielding plate (23k) of steering coupling (25) at control valve of rack-and-pinion steering (23). IMPORTANT Three bolts.
17 Unscrew lower bolt of steering coupling (25) on rack-and-pinion steering (23) IMPORTANT To do so rotate steering coupling (25) into corresponding position.
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.10-P-1002-01E
18 Carefully pull steering coupling (25) out of control valve of rack-and-pinion steering (23) (predetermined breaking point on control valve). NOTES Do not use force (hammer, strong lever action) since the lower steering shaft is sensitive to lateral impacts.
    IMPORTANTInstallation:  ↓
Turn rack-and-pinion steering to center position and install steering coupling (25).
AR46.20-P-0600-01P
19 Remove supply and return line of steering rack (23) at front axle carrier (1). IMPORTANT The three brackets are located on the left side of the front axle carrier (1).

  • Replace bolts
  • Use only original bolts (4 x)
  • Do not attach bolts at an angle when screwing in
  • Do not use an impact bolt tightener
  • Observe tightening torque

IMPORTANTInstallation:  Before tightening bolts (1f), align front axle carrier (1) on left and right using drift (057, 11 mm dia.). After this, insert rubber plugs.
