Controlling 

The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) is controlled over the digital data bus (D2B) by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).

The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) generates messages for the following operating states:

• No magazine in CD changer
• Magazine occupation (music CDs only)
• Number of current CD
• Number of current title
• List of occupied CD insertion slots
• Number of titles per CD
• Current operating condition (play, pause, etc.)

The messages are sent to the digital data bus (D2B) and interpreted by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).

CD playback 

The audio data is stored digitally on the CD. The audio CD in the CD player is driven by a motor. The laser optical system scans the rotating CD (there is no physical contact with the CD) and converts the digital optical signals into electrical signals. Minor errors ("drop outs") in the data stream from the laser optical system caused by scratches or contamination on the audio CD are compensated for.

The electrical signals are then decoded and with code (810) sound system are relayed over the digital data bus (D2B) to the sound amplifier (A2/13).

Jumps and interruptions during playback 

When driving on poor roads and during hefty vibrations it may be that jumps and interruptions occur during playback. In such cases, wait until the road conditions are better before using the CD player. If weather conditions are damp or if there are strong variations in the ambient temperature, moisture may accumulate in the CD player housing (condensation). This may also lead to faults occurring during playback. Where this happens, take steps to ensure that sufficient ventilation is provided for the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6).
