Brake Operating Unit (BOU): Removal
- Deactivate SBC brake system and read out fault memory using STAR DIAGNOSIS compact diagnosis system, according to menus on display. See Figure and DEACTIVATING & ACTIVATING SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL (SBC) SYSTEM (WITH STAR DIAGNOSIS COMPACT DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM) under SERVICE PRECAUTIONS.
- Remove expansion reservoir. See BRAKE OPERATING UNIT (BOU) EXPANSION RESERVOIR .
- Disconnect harness connector for pedal value sensor (B37/1), on BOU.
- Remove brake line (7) from BOU.
- Remove cover below instrument panel. See COVER BELOW INSTRUMENT PANEL .
- Remove stop lamp switch. See STOP LAMP SWITCH .
- Unclip cover (8) on brake pedal.
- Remove stud (9) from brake pedal.
- Remove nuts (5a) from BOU.
- Remove BOU.
- Installation is the reverse of removal procedure. Torque nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Activate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS compact diagnosis system. See DEACTIVATING & ACTIVATING SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL (SBC) SYSTEM (WITH STAR DIAGNOSIS COMPACT DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM) under SERVICE PRECAUTIONS. Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM (WITH STAR DIAGNOSIS COMPACT DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM) or BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM (WITHOUT STAR DIAGNOSIS COMPACT DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM) under BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM.
NOTE:
When removing brake lines collect brake fluid with a absorbent cloth and seal connections with stop plugs.
