Parking Brake Adjustments

  1. Check pedal assembly version. See PEDAL ASSEMBLY VERSION  . Operate parking brake pedal and check pedal travel. If pedal travel is not within specification, adjust parking brake. Control force on parking brake pedal with a pulled notch parking brake is 27-54 pound-force (120-240 N) to achieve 1 notch. Control force for a pushed notch parking brake is the same to achieve 5 notches.
  2. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels.
  3. Loosen adjusting screw (89). See Fig 1 .
  4. NOTE: Parking brake shoes are housed in rear brake rotors.
  5. To adjust parking brake use a screw driver to rotate adjusting wheel (105) until parking brake shoes contact brake drum and brake drum/disc can no longer be turned by hand. See Fig 2 . To adjust passenger rear brake shoes, turn adjusting wheel from bottom upwards. To adjust driver rear brake shoes, turn adjusting wheel from top downwards.
  6. Turn back adjusting wheel until wheel or brake disc can be turned freely by hand. When loosening adjusting wheels ensure that both sides are turned back by same number of teeth (approximately 8-9).
  7. Adjust length of parking brake cables (85 and 86). To do this, turn in adjusting screw (89) 2 turns and check parking brake pedal travel. If necessary, screw in adjusting screw until parking brake pedal travel falls into specification.
  8. Ensure rear wheels turn freely.
  9. Install disassembled components in reverse order. Torque nuts and bolts to specifications, see TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
