Function requirements:

Function

The lower control panel control unit (N72) detects the request directly from the hazard warning system switch (S6/5s1) in the hazard warning flasher and CL switch group (S6/5) and via CAN-B (CAN-B) transmits the signal "Hazard warning flasher On" to the steering column module (N80). The steering column module (N80) is the master control unit for the hazard warning flasher function. It generates the hazard warning flash cycle and passes the hazard warning flasher signal on to the corresponding control units over CAN-B (CAN-B).

The instrument cluster (A1) both visually and audibly indicates the hazard warning flasher procedure by actuating the left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1) and right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2) as well as the audible turn signal indicator (A1h2).

The indicator lamp in the hazard warning system switch (S6/5s1) only flashes off and on when the "hazard warning flasher active" signal is sent from the rear SAM control unit (N10/8) over CAN-B (CAN-B).

The hazard warning flasher function can be interrupted by turn signal indication. The hazard warning flasher function is switched off by operating the hazard warning system switch (S6/5s1) in the hazard warning flasher and CL switch group (S6/5).

IMPORTANT The flashing frequency is 1.5 Hz. With "circuit 15R On", the flashing cycle is distinguished by 52 to 48 % (On to Off) and with "circuit 15R Off" by 35 to 65 % (On to Off).

When the steering column module (N80) fails, the signal "hazard warning flasher On" is directly generated by the lower control panel control unit (N72) and is forwarded to the corresponding control units over the CAN-B (CAN-B).

Hazard warning signals if airbag deployed

In the event of an airbag deployment the restraint systems control unit sends the "crash" signal over CAN-B (CAN-B) to the lower control panel control unit (N72). The signal is forwarded by the lower control panel control unit (N72) to the steering column module (N80). This activates the hazard warning flasher function. The hazard warning flasher function is switched off by operating the hazard warning system switch (S6/5s1) in the hazard warning flasher and CL switch group (S6/5).
