Removal & Installation (S430, S55 AMG, S600 (2004 Model Year), S430 & S500 4MATIC)
NOTE:
Letters and numbers in parenthesis correspond to letters and numbers in illustrations.
- Open hood.
- Remove brake master cylinder and check for leaks at rear of thrust rod piston. See MASTER CYLINDER .
- Remove gasket (33) off cover of cable duct (34). See Fig 1 .
- Remove cover of cable duct cover.
- Remove brake lines (31).
- Remove left wiper arm. See WIPER ARMS .
- Loosen cover (32) on left side of brake booster and pull slightly forward.
- Remove instrument panel lower cover. See INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER COVER .
- Remove brakelight switch (S9/1). See BRAKELIGHT SWITCH .
- Remove cover (22) of pedal assembly.
- Pull off retainer (25) at brake booster to brake pedal and remove bolt (26).
- Disconnect connector from Brake Assyst (BAS) release switch (A7/7s1).
- Disconnect diaphragm travel sensor (A7/7b1).
- Disconnect vacuum line (8) from brake booster (16). Check gasket and replace if necessary.
- Remove brake booster mounting nuts (23).
- Lift up cover (32) and remove brake booster.
- Installation is reverse of removal procedure. Tighten nuts and bolts specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM . Adjust brakelight switch. See BRAKELIGHT SWITCH .
