Component description for the turbocharger - GF09.40-P-4010IC

ENGINE 647.961

ENGINE 648.960

ENGINE 648.961

Arrangement

The turbocharger is located on the right next to the cylinder on the flange of the exhaust manifold.

Task

The turbocharger compacts the intake air whereby the volumetric efficiency of the cylinder is increased and thus the engine torque increases.

Function

The exhaust gases of the engine are directed through the exhaust manifold into the exhaust turbine onto the turbine wheel. The exhaust gas pressure is transferred to the turbine wheel and causes this to turn. As a result, the compressor wheel, which is connected to the turbine wheel by the turbine shaft, is also driven at the same speed. The fresh air inducted by the compressor wheel is compressed Band passed to the engine.

Charge pressure control

The boost pressure is regulated via adjustment of the guide vanes by the boost pressure positioner.

  1. At low engine speeds, the guide vanes are increasingly closed and thus the flow cross-section is reduced. The result is that the flow rate of the exhaust gas at the turbine wheel is increased, which in turn increases the speed of the turbine wheel and the compressor turbine wheel. This increases the boost pressure and the engine torque increases.
  2. At high engine speeds, the guide vanes are opened increasingly and thus the flow cross-section increased. This reduces the air flow velocity of the exhaust at the turbine wheel whereby the desired boost pressure is achieved for a lower exhaust back pressure. This reduces the fuel consumption.
