The charge air cooler is located at the bottom crosswise in front of the engine cooler.

Task

The charge air cooler cools the charge air heated by compression. This improves the cylinder charge level and reduces the formation of NO_x tan thanks to lower exhaust gas temperatures.

Design

The charge air cooler is a heat exchanger in crossflow format.

Function

The charge air is warmed up by compression of the air drawn in by the turbocharger. The charge air gives up its heat to the air stream passed through the charge air cooler, which is located directly downstream of the turbocharger.
