The intake port shutoff motor is located in the middle under the charge air distribution pipe.

Task

The engine intake port shutoff continuously adjusts the flaps in the filling intake ports according to speed and load.

Function

The engine intake port shutoff is actuated according to the performance map stored in the CDI control unit (N3/9) with a PWM signal (pulse width modulated signal).

The flaps are adjusted continuously via an adjustment shaft by the engine intake port shutoff.

In a de-energized condition the flaps are held by the flap return spring and the integral spring in the Intake port shutoff motor in an open condition.

If a fault is detected by the engine intake port shutoff, the PWM signal is periodically switched to ground. The output driver in the CDI control unit can thus detect the fault.
