This document covers the following points:

IMPORTANT The changeover of the display unit temperature display degrees Celsius (°C) or degrees Fahrenheit (°F) depending on the national version takes place via the respective variant coding of the instrument cluster (A1) via the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73).

Operating the multifunction display (A1p13)

If the instrument cluster (A1) is activated by opening the driver door, for instance, the main screen of the base system (trip and total mileage, outside temperature) always appears on the multifunction display (A1p13).

Calling up display of different systems

Function requirement is "Circuit 15R ON".

If the system selection button (S110s3) of the multifunction steering wheel is pressed, the multifunction display (A1p13) switches over to the basic display of the next system. Once the driver has scrolled through all systems the main screen of the base function appears again.

The illustration above shows the possible systems arranged in a circle. When the system selection button (S110s3) is pressed, the display always goes to the next system.

IMPORTANT You can jump to another system from any screen by pressing the system selection button (S110s3).

With the exception of the trip computer, the basic display of this system then appears. If a change is made from the system in front to the trip computer system, the display screen is always called up which was last shown for the trip computer.

Scrolling within a system

Function requirement is "Circuit 15R ON".

In addition to the main screen, most systems also feature other screens.

The scroll forward/back button (S110s1) is used to scroll within a system.

The display jumps one screen further each time the driver presses the scroll forward/back pushbutton (S110s1) ( ↑). The display scrolls either forwards or backwards depending on which portion of the scroll forward/back pushbutton (S110s1) the driver presses (↑, ↓).

IMPORTANT Only systems and functions with which the vehicle is equipped are displayed. If a system is not present, it is not displayed (go toped) when the system selection button (S110s3) is pressed.

With the instrument cluster (A1) the time can be set in hours and minutes on vehicles except code (352) COMAND operating and display system.

IMPORTANT The changeover of display mode of time from 12 h to 24 h takes place automatically.

Temperature display

The changeover of the display unit temperature display degrees Celsius (°C) or degrees Fahrenheit (°F) depending on the national version takes place via the respective variant coding of the instrument cluster (A1) via the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73). The instrument cluster (A1) also sends a message for the air conditioning on the class B (interior) controller area network bus (CAN-B).

IMPORTANT The driver can no longer switch the outside temperature indicator (A1p4) between degrees Celsius and degrees Fahrenheit.

Speedometer

You can switch the tachometer between miles and kilometers per hour. This changeover also affects the display of the trip computer system integrated in the instrument cluster (A1). In addition the instrument cluster (A1) places a message on the Class C (engine compartment) controller area network bus (CAN-C).

The following settings are also possible:

IMPORTANT The "automatic heater booster" is activated automatically on vehicles with diesel engine.

Text/language

The language in which the texts appear in the instrument cluster (A1) can be selected here.

The instrument cluster (A1) also places a corresponding message on CAN-B. The language in which the texts appear in the instrument cluster (A1) can be selected here.

Calling up stored warning messages

When the instrument cluster (A1) is active, you can scroll through the stored warning messages:

Warning messages of category 1 (highest priority) cannot be acknowledged. Indicator or warning lamps that light up in parallel cannot be acknowledged.

IMPORTANT Certain warning messages are also accompanied by a chime. A warning message is "Close trunk lid" for example. Such warning messages are not stored in the fault memory.

Set brightness of lighting

The brightness of illumination of the instrument cluster (A1) and the switch and controls illumination can be adapted to individual requirements with the instrument illumination rheostat (A1r1):

Workshop level of instrument cluster (A1)

Basic prerequisite is "Circuit 15R ON".

The following steps are necessary in order to reach the workshop level in the multifunction display (A1p13):

Via the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) on the multifunction steering wheel MFL it is possible to change between the individual sub-items:

Switch on dynamometer test mode

With the dynamometer test mode the wheel speeds of the driven axle are reflected in the non-driven axle. This is necessary on the brake test stand so that no fault is entered in the ESP and BAS control unit (N47-5).

With the dynamometer test mode the wheel speeds of the driven axle are reflected in the non-driven axle.

The dynamometer test mode remains active, even if "Circuit 15R ON" has been switched off in the meantime, until it is switched off with the button + and -, setting of specific functions and volume control (S111s1).
