Disassemble, Overhaul & Assembly

  1. Remove rear caliper. See BRAKE CALIPER (REAR)  .
  2. Remove dust caps (45). See Fig 1 .
    3. NOTE: If caliper piston is frozen, replace brake caliper.
  3. Hold caliper piston (47) in place with resetting device (031) and carefully press out opposite caliper piston with compressed air.
  4. Remove caliper piston seal from groove in cylinder bore.
  5. Check and clean caliper piston and cylinder bore, replace if necessary.
    6. NOTE: Do not clean caliper piston with a polishing or emery cloth, this will damage chrome plated surface.
  6. Remove deposits on caliper piston using a soft brass wire brush or a rough shop towel.
  7. Replace caliper piston if chrome plated surface is damaged.
  8. Clean aluminum version with anodized surfaces (caliper piston and housing bore) with soft rag only.
  9. If cylinder bores are scored or rusted, replace brake caliper.
  10. Remove small, light rust spots in cylinder bore with a polishing cloth; remove worse rust spots in front of groove for caliper piston seal using fine grained emery paper (grain size 380-500).
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM  .
