Removing and installing rear spring - AR32.20-P-0230A

MODEL 129, 140, 170, 202, 208, 210

REMOVINGINSTALLING Removing, installing     
DANGER Lethal injuries  are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
IMPORTANT Springs; general background information. Model Series 129, 140, 168, 170, 202, 208, 210 AH32.20-P-9404-01A 
1 Raise vehicle.    
2.1 Remove rear-suspension switch for rollover bar. Model Series 129 up to 08/95 ra91001290860x
3 Remove track control arm shield (72c).    
4 Remove transverse link (69). Model Series 129 when removing left rear spring
Model Series 170, 208.4 when removing left or right rear spring
NOTESInstallation: TORQUE SPECIFICATION Replace self-locking bolt (69a, 69b).

5.1 Unsnap wire for brake-pad wear indicator from track control arm (72) (arrows). Vehicles with ASR Code 471
NOTESInstallation: 
Ensure that wiring harness is properly routed
 
6 Install clamping plates (01b, 01c). SPECIAL TOOL Model Series 140 up to 12.94 Figure

7 Raise track control arm (72). Raise until the rear halfshaft is almost completely horizontal.  
8 Install spring compressor (01a). SPECIAL TOOL Figure
DANGER Risk of injury  from jamming or bruises  when working on springs or spring bosses which are tensioned Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally shield off hazardous area if necessary.
Inspect special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection).
Wear protective gloves.

9 Compress rear spring.   AR32.20-P-0200-01A 
10 Release track control arm (72). Model Series 129, 140, 170, 202, 208, 210
NOTESInstallation: TORQUE SPECIFICATION Replace self-locking nut (72b), installing with the rear halfshaft in a virtually horizontal attitude.
*BA35.20-P-1001-01A 
11 Remove rear spring (73) with rubber bushing (74). Clean track control arm (72) in area surrounding the anchorage point.  
REFER TO COMPONENT MODIFICATIONS Modified front and rear springs Model 202
IMPORTANT After replacing the rear spring or rubber bushing ↓.

    Check and correct headlamp adjustment AP82.10-P-8260A
12 Reverse the removal sequence to install.
