Wheels vibrate or run roughly - AF40.10-P-3201AV: Notes

MODEL 124, 129, 140, 168, 170, 202, 203, 208, 210, 215, 220, 230

Damage code Cause Remedy
40 221 20 The tire balance also becomes poor with increasing tire wear. i.e. t he tires do not wear completely symmetrically; the wear is higher at points (as a rule, on the outside shoulder on the front axle and in the center thread on the rear axle). 1 Conduct a road test.

Lethal injuries  are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
2 Raise vehicle.
IMPORTANT After the test drive, it is necessary to immediately take the load off the wheels to avoid formation of flat spots.

    8 Reinstall wheels.
IMPORTANT The wheels with the best radial/lateral run out values are to be mounted onto the front axle.
When screwing the wheels onto the vehicle, ensure that they are centered exactly. Start off by turning in the wheel bolts to the mounting face in a cross pattern and then tighten them to the specified torque value.

    9 Conduct a road test.
10 After test drive, relieve load on vehicle immediately.
    11 Evaluate vehicle.
IMPORTANT If wheel vibration can still be felt.

12 Balance front and rear wheels on vehicle with finish balancer.
IMPORTANT Before attaching additional balancing weights, turn the marking points for the missing balancing weight to the bottom and then loosen the lug bolts.
This allows the present centering wheels to compensate the remaining imbalance to a certain degree. Retighten lug bolts and perform finish balancing again. Compensate any remaining imbalance with weights.

IMPORTANT If the existing residual imbalance is > 20g ↓
    13 Remove wheel. AP40.10-P-4050Z
    14 Rebalance wheel.
IMPORTANT When performing this work, care must be taken to ensure that the job is done under extremely clean conditions. Dirt and rust on the wheel/hub/brake drum and centering or clamping device may impair the balancing result!
NOTE: 1/10 mm centering difference = 20 g imbalance.
