Fig 1: Identifying Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Vacuum Transducer

The exhaust gas recirculation pressure transducer is located at the exhaust gas recirculation valve at the rear on the right cylinder head.

Task

For the purpose of exhaust gas recirculation, the exhaust gas recirculation pressure transducer controls the exhaust gas recirculation vacuum capsule using vacuum pressure and then ventilates the capsule once again.

Function

Fig 2: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Vacuum Transducer Function Diagram
G04732173

The exhaust gas recirculation pressure transducer is actuated by the ME control unit (N3/10) for exhaust gas recirculation using a PWM signal.

The EGR valve is opened to a varying extent as a result of this actuation with a vacuum of approx. 80 - 200 mbar and the quantity of exhaust gases which are recirculated, is controlled in this way.

In de-energized state, the ERG pressure transducer ventilates the ERG vacuum capsule and the exhaust gas recirculation valve closes.
