Removal & Installation (S430, S55 AMG, S600 (2004 Model Year), S430 & S500 4MATIC)

NOTE: Letters and numbers in parenthesis correspond to letters and numbers in illustrations.
  1. Open hood.
  2. Remove brake master cylinder and check for leaks at rear of thrust rod piston. See MASTER CYLINDER  .
  3. Remove gasket (33) off cover of cable duct (34). See Fig 1 .
  4. Remove cover of cable duct cover.
  5. Remove brake lines (31).
  6. Remove left wiper arm. See WIPER ARMS  .
  7. Loosen cover (32) on left side of brake booster and pull slightly forward.
  8. Remove instrument panel lower cover. See INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER COVER  .
  9. Remove brakelight switch (S9/1). See BRAKELIGHT SWITCH  .
  10. Remove cover (22) of pedal assembly.
  11. Pull off retainer (25) at brake booster to brake pedal and remove bolt (26).
  12. Disconnect connector from Brake Assyst (BAS) release switch (A7/7s1).
  13. Disconnect diaphragm travel sensor (A7/7b1).
  14. Disconnect vacuum line (8) from brake booster (16). Check gasket and replace if necessary.
  15. Remove brake booster mounting nuts (23).
  16. Lift up cover (32) and remove brake booster.
  17. Installation is reverse of removal procedure. Tighten nuts and bolts specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  18. Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM  . Adjust brakelight switch. See BRAKELIGHT SWITCH  .
