Remove/install wheel carrier - AR35.20-P-0115MB

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGERDanger!  Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
NOTES While working on the rear axle care must be taken to ensure that the surface of all aluminum components do not get any scratches, cracks and notches. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected    
NOTESInstallation  When tightening the wheel carrier the vehicle must be on its wheels, otherwise the rubber mounts are permanently under load and are damaged as a result    
1 Remove twelve-point collar nut (12) from rear axle shaft (37)   AR35.30-P-0115-01A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA35.30-P-1001-01A 
2 Raise vehicle with lifting platform    
3 Remove rear wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels   AP40.10-P-4050Z
4 Detach brake caliper from rear axle NOTES Attach brake caliper to vehicle without tension to relieve brake hose so that it is not damaged during repair
IMPORTANT The brake hose is not removed from the brake caliper during repair work.

5 Detach rear brake cable (112a) from automatic cable slack adjuster of parking brake See: ↓  
    Remove rear brake cable. AR42.20-P-0525I
6 Remove brake disc   AR42.10-P-0220I
7 Remove parking brake shoes   AR42.20-P-0530I
8 Remove left rear rpm sensor (L6/3) or right rear rpm sensor (L6/4)   AR42.40-P-0820I
9 Check whether rear axle shaft (37) is firmly attached to rear axle shaft flange (10) If the rear axle shaft (37) is difficult to remove: ↓  
    Press rear axle shaft out of the rear axle shaft flange AR35.30-P-0115-03B

DANGERDanger!  Risk of injury  caused by pinching or crushing  when working on springs or spring bodies that are under load Use only approved tensioning devices; shield off hazard area if necessary.
Inspect special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection).
Wear protective gloves.

11 Detach spring control arm (6) from wheel carrier (7) IMPORTANTInstallation  : The rear axle shaft (37) must be horizontal when the nut is tightened.

12 Remove torsion bar link rod (6k) from wheel carrier (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA32.20-P-1001-04G 
13 Press tie rod joint (4c) out of wheel carrier (7)   AR35.20-P-0109-01I
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA35.20-P-1002-04A 
    SPECIAL TOOL Thrust piece *201589056300
    SPECIAL TOOL Puller *140589003300
14 Detach thrust arm (5) from wheel carrier (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA35.20-P-1002-05B 
15 Detach torque strut (3) from wheel carrier (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA35.20-P-1002-03B 
16 Detach camber strut (2) from wheel carrier (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA35.20-P-1002-02B 
17 Fasten rear axle shaft (37) to vehicle with wire NOTES Fasten the rear axle shaft (37) to the vehicle with a wire during repair work in order to prevent damage to the rubber boots.  
18 Remove wheel carrier (7) from rear axle shaft (37) IMPORTANT Do not damage the rubber boot and rotor for the rpm sensors on the rear axle shaft (37).  
19.1 Remove rear axle shaft flange (10) Only if the brake cover plate (112c) has to be removed, see: ↓  
    Remove/install rear axle shaft flange and angular ball bearing. AR35.20-P-0130I 
20 Install in the reverse order    
21.1 Perform a wheel alignment check After installing new parts. AR40.20-P-0200MB
